1. Get a great overview of a city
Hop On Hop Off buses give you a great overview of a city and are especially useful if you are only in town for a couple of days. As tickets are purchased on a 24 or 48 hour basis, you can choose to either do a complete loop and then return to the places that particularly interest you or just hop on and off whenever it takes your fancy.
2. Let someone else do the driving
Navigating your way around a new city can be a nightmare and not everyone is confident using the local metro or able to walk long distances. Taking a Hop On Hop Off bus tour leaves the driving to someone else while you get to sit back, relax and see the sights.
3. Various routes to choose from
In larger cities like London and Paris, there are numerous routes on offer. In London, for example, you can swap between the four different routes throughout the validity of your ticket, giving you a comprehensive coverage of London. Bath also has two different routes included in the ticket price – we enjoyed the city route (we did the full loop and then went around again hopping off at various places along the way) and then the Skyline route which gave us great views over the city.
4. Informative commentary
The reason all those people you’ve seen onboard Hop On Hop Off buses in the past are wearing earplugs is because they are listening to commentary as they take in the sights. Recorded commentary is offered in a number of languages and some buses even have actual tour guides who share the history of the city with you and are happy to answer questions.
5. Discounts on other attractions
Purchasing a Hop On Hop Off bus ticket often allows you to receive discounts at other attractions in the town. We received a discounted entry fee to the Roman Baths in Bath on presentation of our bus ticket, for example, and The Original Tour in London includes a free walking tour and a free Thames river cruise.
6. Receive discounted rates on future Hop On Hop Off tickets
If, like me, you’ve enjoyed your Hop On Hop Off tour, City Sightseeing Worldwide, the company that operates those distinctive red buses around the world, offers a discount of 10% when you show your ticket from any of their bus tours around the world.
